Our Retail Leadership Development Program will expose team members to a variety of retail leadership careers. Participants in this program at Meijer will receive a foundation of retail knowledge that, combined with a structured development plan, will position them for roles of increasing responsibility within Store Operations. The pace of progression is both accelerated and customizable to the development needs of the participant. Those with a desire to excel, demonstrating high leadership potential and a passion for the values that make Meijer successful, a Store Director position may be only 3-5 years away.
Participants begin the program responsible for area results, team member engagement and an exceptional customer experience. With experience and success in the team leader role, you will have the opportunity to take on a role leading multiple teams in one of four areas of the store. The Line Leader role is responsible for driving business results through multiple teams, leading area initiatives or changes and the coaching and development of their team. Time spent in the line leader role prepares participants to take a broader and more collaborative view of the store operation. With experience and success in this role, participants are eligible for selection into the Store Director Development Program to develop the knowledge, skills and leadership required to successfully lead a $40 – $100 M a year business with over 300 team members.

Qualifications:
The Meijer Professional Retail Internship Program is an experiential education program designed for students currently enrolled in an Associates or Bachelor’s degree program, who are considering future careers in this exciting field.
- Ability to work flexible shifts (primarily days) to gain exposure to the full operation of the store
- Prior experience in Retail strongly preferred
- Past leadership responsibilities in work or extracurricular activities strongly preferred
- Passion for Retail and a desire to enter a career in store management
- Drive for results – has focus on the bottom line
- Customer focus – dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers
- Relationship Skills – can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies
- Communication Skills – conveys the right information in writing and verbally
