Sports Reporting Intern

This intern will report, write and video for a variety of sports stories for print, websites, and social media. Experience as a reporter at a college newspaper, website, or related work, with an emphasis in a breadth of skills. The position will require a strong background in journalism, both on the writing and production sides. The Chronicle’s sports intern will work in a variety of formats and platforms, including desk work at company headquarters and field work at games. We are looking for a candidate who is equally comfortable in the digital and print publishing formats, although we would like to see a decided lean towards digital. Candidates should possess strong writing, photo, and multimedia skills. Given the timing of this internship, the focus in terms of content coverage will include major league baseball and football training camps, among other sports.

Business Reporting Intern

The ideal candidate can not only chase breaking news but also generate their own story ideas, particularly in the areas of business and technology. We look for writers who have worked on campus or at other professional publications, are adept at reading SEC filings and other corporate reports, and have some data journalism experience. During the internship, you will assist reporters and editors on projects, field breaking news assignments, and work on your own story ideas.

Digital/Interactive Intern

This intern will work with the digital team to create interactive charts and visual stories for the SF Chronicle website. These projects will be mobile responsive and cross browser compatible. Candidates should have a passion for digital journalism and visual storytelling. They should be good at collaborating with a team and incorporating feedback. They should have creative design and development ideas. Preferred technical skills include: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, GitHub, and command line. Bonus points for familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and previous reporting experience.
