AAFA is currently offering internship opportunities for summer 2017.

Application details:

– Internship start date/end date is flexible dependent on students’ schedules, with a minimum of an eight week internship duration. A stipend will be allocated on a monthly basis.

– Deadline for submissions: AAFA is accepting summer internship applications until April 1, 2017. Decisions will be made by May 1.

AAFA Communications/Public Affairs Internship (Communications & Marketing Department)

AAFA is seeking candidates for a communications/public affairs intern with the following personal characteristics and qualifications. This internship opportunity offers aspiring journalists/public affairs professionals firsthand experience in the role of communications, public relations, and messaging for a nonprofit trade association in Washington.

Personal characteristics & qualifications:

  • Enthusiastic self-starter and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated interest in marketing, communications, public affairs, and/or public policy issues.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
  • Proficiency in AP Style a plus.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the association’s collateral material development to include: weekly e-newsletter, handouts, and issue one-pagers.
  • Maintain press contacts, track news clips.
  • Support website revisions and social media communications.
  • Support creative production/design of outbound emails.

AAFA Public Policy Internship (Government Relations Department)
AAFA offers competitive internship opportunities in our Government Relations Department.  The department is interested in trade, legislative, and regulatory matters at national and international levels, while directing lobbying and advocacy responses for matters affecting the apparel and footwear industries. Interns will have the opportunity to attend meetings, forums, and other events in Washington, D.C., while meeting top officials in the political arena.

Personal characteristics & qualifications:

  • Enthusiastic self-starter and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated interest in trade, legislative, and regulatory matters.
  • Demonstrated interest in corporate social responsibility and/or sustainability a plus.*
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.

*Seeking two interns for the Government Relations Department; one will emphasize corporate social responsibility. Please demonstrate interest in this area if applicable.

Key responsibilities:

  • Research trade, legislative, product safety and other regulatory matters.
  • Support the development of letters and agendas and summarize regulatory updates.
  • Support development of presentation content for government relations-oriented speaking engagements.
