Employees in Consumer Banking Sales & Support (CBSS) lead U.S. Bank’s overall consumer and small business strategy. They manage many of U.S. Bank company’s product functions, as well as 24-hour banking, mortgage and all consumer lending.

Job Responsibilities

During an internship with us, you will participate in the department’s modeling and reporting activities related to the valuation and pricing of the Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) Asset (e.g., term structure and OAS modeling, delinquency & foreclosure modeling, prepayment modeling and back testing). In your work, you will be exposed to any of the stages of the model life-cycle (e.g., model development and documentation, maintenance, monitoring or model governance). Other activities typically include data retrieval and preparation, data analyses and report generation, and the automation of existing production and reporting processes via VBA or scripting languages. You will also participate in the preparation of the bank’s CCAR/DFAST stress testing activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Ability to think and work independently, professional demeanor, high energy and a “can-do” attitude
  • Highly organized; ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Demonstration of curiosity and desire to learn and contribute to the team
  • Strong programming skills and proficiency in at least one of the following languages SAS, Matlab, EViews, SPSS, R, SQL, C++, VBA
  • Working towards a degree in a quantitative field, preferably in statistics, finance, economics (with a focus of applied econometrics), applied and computational mathematics
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, working knowledge of finance and financial analysis
