IT Professional Apprentice™ (Co-Op)

This is not a standard Co-Op program. This is a Professional Apprentice Program that helps students acquire real-world skills that give them an added edge in the workplace. As one of the first large scale co-op programs developed in the Northeast Ohio area, we’ve also been recognized as one of the best! Our program has won awards and accolades throughout the years for providing meaningful work experience and the opportunity for students to build their professional portfolio.

Always an innovative concept, our program has matured into what is now referred to as The Professional Apprentice Program. We look for students with talent and enthusiasm to join our program and they are expected to perform at the highest levels, while maintaining high academic standards.

Information Technology typically offers over 70 long-term Professional Apprentice positions to students who are willing to commit until graduation and at least one year or more to the company. Students work part time hours (15-28 hour/week) year-round and are able to continue with the program up to six months after graduation. A wide variety of positions are available in the following areas: Infrastructure, Corporate Applications, Internet Services, Security, Client Services, and many more.

We treat our students as we would our full-time employees. They are given feedback regarding their performance regularly and they participate in the year-end review process. In addition, the Professional Apprentice Program has a dedicated Career Engagement Representative who coaches students and requires that they be informed of development and training opportunities. Also, we assign our students a mentor to direct them through their first professional experience.

As part of the Sherwin-Williams Professional Apprentice Program, students are given opportunities to network with influential business leaders, as well as with other students within and outside of Sherwin-Williams.

Our ultimate goal is to provide students with a meaningful work experience while they are contributing to the success of the business.

Global Supply Chain Internships

(ENGINEERING, OPERATIONS, SUPPLY CHAIN, ENVIORNMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY AND HUMAN RESOURCES)

Are you looking to gain some “hands-on, real world experience” within your area of study while still pursuing your undergraduate or graduate degree? Are you pursuing a degree in Engineering, Operations/Industrial Management, Supply Chain Management/ Logistics, Environmental Health & Safety, or Human Resources? The Global Supply Chain has internship opportunities available in many of our manufacturing and warehouse locations.

The Global Supply Chain Internship Program includes interns in each of the following focus areas/functions: Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Environmental Health & Safety, and Human Resources. Most of our internship opportunities are hosted at facilities in the following geogrpahic areas: Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL, Greensboro, NC, and Cleveland, OH. However, internships may become available at any one of our manufacturing or distribution locations.

Throughout your time as an intern, you will have the opportunity to figure out if this is the type of work, enviornment, and company culture that interests and appeals to you. In addition, we get an opportunity to learn all about you as an indivdiual, evaluate your abilities, and determine your fit into our organization. You will work at one of our manufacturing or warehouse locations, and you will be assigned tasks and continuous improvement projects that will allow you to learn about your area of study. As an intern, you will have specific goals to achieve during your assignment.

At the end of your internship, you will give a presentation to our management staff and other interns within our organization about what you have learned. This is a great opportunity to showcase what you have done, and also learn about the experiences your peers have had in other facilities and functions within our organziation. In addition, your immediate supervisor will complete an evaluation on your performance and give you constructive feedback on the progress you have made, and how you may improve for future assignments.

Global Supply Chain and other Sherwin-Williams interns are the primary source of candidates for our Global Supply Chain Trainee Development Program. Trainee positions are regular full-time positions within our company intended for college graduates seeking their first career position. We are looking for candidates who upon completion of an internship assignment and upon graduation, are willing to relocate to one of our other manufacturing or distribution sites designated to host one of our Trainee positions.

If hired as a Global Supply Chain Trainee, you will spend your first year gaining more knowledge and experiences within your specific focus area/function by completing previouly determined functional rotations, and/or assigned tasks and projects that cover specific curriculum necessary in order for you to become qualified for the target position upon completion of the Trainee Development Program . In addition, all trainees will be assigned a mentor and participate in the following activities: an orientation to our Company and Division, business and competency training, an overview of the operations within a paint plant, a specialty plant and a distribution service center (warehouse), a total Supply Chain overview (from product concept to finished product), and Transactional Lean and Six Sigma Training.

Upon completion of the trainee program, you will then be expected to make the transition into a regular entry level position available at one of our manufacturing or distribution field locations. Target positions for each type of trainee are as follows:

Engineering Trainees: Process Engineers
Operations Trainees: Production Supevisors
Supply Chain Trainees: Supply Chain Analysts
EHS Trainees: Safety Coordinators
HR Trainees: HR Coordinators

Make the decision today to pursue a Global Supply Internship or Trainee position.

Research & Development Internship

Throughout your time as an intern or co-op, you will have the opportunity to figure out if this type of work is something that interests you & we get an opportunity to learn all about you as well. You’re placed in a work group, reporting to a mentor and you’re given a “real-world” project to work on while you’re here. Throughout your internship or co-op, we’re able to see a win-win relationship develop. If you choose to interview for a full-time position upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to talk through the experience you’ve had as an intern or co-op and hopefully join us as a permanent member of the Sherwin-Williams Family.

As an intern or co-op, you’ll be an active participant on a project team. You’ll also have specific goals to achieve during your 12 weeks. As a result, your mentor will complete periodic evaluations on your progress throughout the 12 weeks.

Near the completion of your internship or co-op, you will be required to share your work through a technical poster or technical presentation. Here, you have an opportunity to showcase what you’ve done and learn from your peers at the same time!

Part of what makes an internship or co-op in R&D so fulfilling, are the extras. Our interns and co-ops spend their 12 weeks learning about the chemistry behind paint and learning how to work in an industrial setting—for a phenomenal company. More importantly, our interns and co-ops spend time with peers and end up with great friendships after the experience is over. Our interns and co-ops have an opportunity to attend lunchtime lectures where they learn about resume writing, interviewing skills, & preparation for their presentation. They also have the opportunity to attend company functions with full-time employees in addition to attending “Intern-only” events like “Intern Night at Progrssive Field”—where they get to take in a Cleveland Indians game. They begin networking with their peers as well as with professional contacts, as we partner with organizations like iCleveland and Summer On The Cuyahoga.
