Part-time Internship – Financial Communications and Capital Markets (January start date)
Job Description:
Edelman Financial Communications & Capital Markets is a boutique strategic financial communications consultancy within Edelman. We advise public and private companies on strategic and capital markets communications to position them within the financial community during normal-course business and transformative events (M&A, IPOs, Spinoffs, Bankruptcy, Investor Relations, etc.). We are looking for a go-getter Intern for our practice based in New York willing to dive in and support our work with U.S. and global clients in complex, challenging situations.
The Intern will support the team performing fundamental PR tasks such as media monitoring, researching analyst and investor coverage, developing media materials, and performing industry research. This position is focused on developing the necessary skill set to become a successful financial communications PR practitioner serving clients across market capitalizations and industries.
Responsibilities:
- Research key client information including business strategy, products and services, key customers and competitors;
- Provide client service administration including preparing client status and activity reports, attending meetings and conference calls, compiling media coverage reports, scheduling and logistics;
- Research, outline, write, edit and proofread materials; ensure quality and consistency with appropriate writing styles;
- Identify and work with media; research content calendars for key financial news outlets and trade publications;
- Participate in new business process including research, proposal and pitch preparation;
- Contribute to marketing efforts that are fundamental to growing the practice;
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Edelman’s values (Quality, Integrity, Respect, Entrepreneurial Spirit) and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates are preferred to be financially savvy recent graduates or rising seniors with a background in financial communications, research, investment management, consulting, marketing, an interest in digital communications and social media strategy, and/or finance. Good interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work effectively with a variety of account service staff within a specific set of accounts is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
S/he will have excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail and the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments and deadlines. S/he will have proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite, general office logistics and will pass a writing test. The Intern should demonstrate interest in financial and investment industry issues and vocabulary. S/he must have a strong work ethic and dedication to consistently provide quality work to his/her team and clients. Previous internship experience in a relevant field is preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a part-time (20-24 hrs/week) internship position, paid at $13 per hour, plus overtime. There is the possibility that this position will become permanent after approximately 6 months. Edelman does not provide any form of housing or transportation reimbursement.
